Newsletter: NY Senate Approves Marriage Equality!

06/24/2011 19:41 by NOH8Campaign

In a historic vote, the New York Senate has voted 33-29 to pass a state bill (Bill 5045) legalizing same-sex marriage. The bill contains critical protections for the rights of religious and not-for-profit institutions, which means that these institutions are free to perform or not perform ceremonies as they see fit. As we continue to fight against discrimination more

Newsletter: #NOH8Worlwide Launches in the UK; Miss USA 2011 Supports NOH8!

06/23/2011 10:39 by NOH8Campaign

# NOH 8 Worldwide will finally be hosting its very first open shoot across the proverbial pond in London , the capital of the United Kingdom ! The photo shoot is scheduled to take place on SUNDAY, JULY 3rd at the SOHO HOTEL from 4 pm to 8 pm . You can find all these details and more on our event page by clicking here. We're so excited to finally elevate the message of the NOH 8 Campaign by hosting our first official shoot in another country. We hosted our first international open shoot on the open water with our Miami Beach Gay Pride Cruise earlier this year, and originally planned to launch our international efforts with a scheduled photo shoot in Tokyo, Japan earlier this year. Unfortunately, the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan only nine days before our scheduled shoot forced us to postpone our trip; but we're happy to once again have the chance to project NOH 8 onto the global stage . The NOH 8 Campaign originally began as a protest to the passage of Proposition 8 in California , which most of you know as the amendment to the California Constitution that banned same-sex marriage . However, the scope of the NOH 8 Campaign has grown and adapted to fight for equal rights and an end to discrimination regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other label. The destructive effect Proposition 8 had on the LGBT Community is not just a California issue; that kind of discrimination is still seen around the world, and it's our responsibility to begin planting the seeds of change in as many places as we possibly can to start changing hearts and minds by telling them who we are - starting with London! We've have an incredible amount of NOH 8 Supporters from England , a few of which are familiar faces across the pond. Mel B. (pictured above), known around the world for her iconic role as Scary Spice of the Spice Girls , posed for the campaign - and brought along the cameras filming her latest television series to help get the word out. She even hosted the NOH 8 Campaign's 2nd Anniversary Celebration this past December! Check out a clip from Mel B.'s NOH 8 episode of It's A Scary World , " Don't H 8 Mel ." UK Performer and Choreographer Aaron Renfree took his photo while he was in LA as well, even taking the time to film a short video for us (posted below). Dominic Keating (pictured left below), perhaps most familiar in the US for his role on Star Trek , also made his way to our North Hollywood studio, as well as Stonewall Group Co-Founder Lee Marshall (pictured right). Stonewall Group is the leading gay charity in the UK. Our next scheduled international effort will take place late July in Montreal, Quebec ; our first Canadian photo shoot! We hope to continue adding more international photo shoots to our schedule as we keep traveling throughout the US, spreading our message of no hate .   more

Newsletter: Dad Takes a Stand; Show Your PRIDE and FIGHT!

06/19/2011 19:19 by NOH8Campaign

As our weekend comes to a close and we prepare for the new week ahead, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the past year of paternal accomplishments , work , compassion , and the dedication of each and every father who has taken the time to become a part of the NOH 8 Campaign . These fathers have set an incredible example for their sons and daughters , many of whom joined their fathers in taking a stand against discrimination. We're excited to share a photo compilation of some of our favorite fathers and their families from all walks of life, caught in front of Adam Bouska's camera, in honor of this Father's Day . Chelsea Montgomery-Duban made news in 2009 when a video she'd uploaded to YouTube of the speech she gave at her parents' wedding went viral and spread through the internet like wildfire. Chelsea's fathers were married during a ceremony in August of 2008 in California , just months before Prop 8 passed; counting their marriage among the 18,000 or so to be legally recognized. The Montgomery-Dubans (pictured right) have been gracious supporters of our campaign, and we're excited to feature Chelsea's story for our Father's Day blog! When we asked Chelsea to share a few words about her parents with us for Father's Day , she said the following: " I have the most amazing [fathers] in the world. Seriously. I mean, most of the time, I'd rather be hanging out with them than with my friends. My Dads and I have the most incredible times together, laughing, traveling or just spending quality time together. I would say we're just like any other family, but we're not because we seem to be so much closer and enjoy each other's company more than most families do. My parents are my role models, my best friends and some of the most incredible human beings on the planet and this January they will be celebrating 30 years together. " You can see Chelsea's speech below. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
